Learning Languages

I believe that fluency in additional Languages should be part of the skill set of a real world Jedi.I have been using Memrise for about a year now to help learning a third and fourth language. I just set up a new account "Daily_Jedi". The system is great for memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules when learning a new language. Many of the courses have audio component to help with pronunciation.
As you progress you earn points and rank. It can be addictive and its fun.
I challenge other Jedi here to try this as part of their Tier training and share their Memrise id so we can follow each other. It also has an app (android and Iphone) so you can take it anywhere. Completely free.

The appeal to ego aside (I prefer encouragement over challenge). I normally don't use these types of programs because they don't offer the one language I actually want to learn. But this one does. So I am willing to try my hand on it. My plate is rather full, but I think it will be worth a shot if it helps me make progress. I am one of those people who just do not have the brain for additional languages. Still, generally worth the wroth the effort.

Oh man, I need to push myself and learn a second language. Thanks for this Jedi JT. Gonna give it a good look now. With the development of new apps and technologies learning new languages just seems so much easier, but I never push myself to do it. And I totally agree that it should be something that all Jedi are striving towards.

Gotta be the one to ask Jedi Opie; what language? Klingon? Wingdings? Haha

Last year I learned about 400 words in Kurdish (Kurmanji) with basic phrases and started Russian. This year I'm just going to finally get proficient at Spanish because it is the most spoken language in the world (it also sounds very cool). I already speak French. Russian will be next year.

Jedi Opie, I thought knowing Spanish in California would be obligatorio.

I took four years of Spanish. I still not speak it. It is not hyperbole when I say I am just not wired to learn new languages. Took two years of Italian. Nothing. So yes. While useful, just not something I am good at.

As for which language. American Sign Language. Most sites and programs don't carry it. Especially free ones.

I learned some spanish, I understand it more than I can speak it, but know very little.

Honestly I keep trying to learn Japanese and keep failing horribly.

This is a great idea!

I love learning languages! Alas, I have forgotten most of what I once knew.
